Tragedy struck the West Pullman neighborhood on Sunday afternoon as two men were gunned down, leaving one dead and another in serious condition. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident occurred around 3:20 P.M., near the 11500 block of South La Salle Street.

Police say, that an unidentified assailant opened fire on the victims – a 34-year-old man who later died from his injuries and a 59-year-old man who is currently in serious condition.

The younger man, struck multiple times by the gunfire, was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Jeremy Smothers.

The second victim, also hit by bullets multiple times, is still fighting for his life at the same hospital. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and Area Two detectives are diligently working on the investigation, NBC Chicago detailed.
