An Oxford Township man has died following a motorcycle collision with another vehicle, while his grandson, who rode along, suffered injuries; the accident occurred on Friday just after 1 p.m. along Baldwin Road near Hummer Lake Road in Brandon Township. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the incident, identifying the motorcyclist as David James Caulder, 60, who was piloting a 2021 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle at the time of the crash, as reported by MidMichigan Now.
According to the report from WWJ Newsradio, the accident happened as a 68-year-old Lapeer woman driving a 20113 Buick Envision turned in front of the motorcycle the Lapeer woman was attempting a left turn onto westbound Hummer Lake Road; this action resulted in Caulder and his 12-year-old grandson being ejected from the motorcycle.
Authorities noted that Caulder was not wearing a helmet, which possibly contributed to the fatal outcome; he was pronounced dead at the scene, the information was corroborated by sources including MidMichigan Now. He left behind a shaken community and a grandson who, due to the protective measures of a helmet, survived the crash with injuries permitting stability, after being transported by the Oxford Township Fire Department to a local hospital.
