Amidst the serene backdrop of Palm City, a disturbing narrative has unfolded as Nikki Camerlengo, owner of Pawsitively Paradise, was arrested on charges of animal cruelty. Following the unexplained deaths of numerous dogs under her care, authorities have stepped in, revealing a pattern of deceit and harm.
On Wednesday, the Martin County Sheriff's Office apprehended Camerlengo after a forensic examination of two dogs by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals indicated they had suffered brutal and ultimately fatal blunt force trauma. Further investigation by NBC Miami revealed Camerlengo's alleged responsibility for the painful demises of Beau, a Cavapoo puppy, and Flurie, a Goldendoodle, as well as possibly for other canine deaths.
Surrounding the crimes against these animals is the unraveling of Camerlengo's professional façade, as exposed by WPTV. Her training facility's website boasted of certifications from reputable organizations such as the International Association of Canine Professionals and the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Program, all of which have since disavowed any connection with her, with some insisting they never certified her in the first place.
According to details disclosed by WPTV, Tracy Atkins of the IACP confirmed that Camerlengo "was never certified by IACP," while Chris Atlier from the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers expressed that upon learning of the allegations, they acted quickly to sever ties with Camerlengo. Moreover, additional scrutiny awaits as the American Kennel Club undertakes its own investigation into her purported certifications. In a response that does little to alleviate growing concerns, Camerlengo chose silence when approached by reporters and protected her website behind a password shortly thereafter.
With more charges anticipated and a judge's mandate preventing her from keeping or caring for any animals, Camerlengo now faces the consequences of her actions.
