A premature infant was discovered abandoned next to a bayou in west Harris County, prompting a swift response from local authorities. The Harris County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies arrived at the 5500 block of Casa Martin on Saturday morning after receiving reports about an abandoned child. According to the ABC13 account, the baby girl was found wrapped in a blanket, with her umbilical cord still attached.

On scene, the child was provided immediate care and was shortly thereafter transported to a local Methodist hospital in Katy, where she is currently in a fair condition. A post from Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on X also confirmed the details of the incident and the infant's status.

Further details emerged as surveillance footage, obtained by ABC13, showed an individual carrying the infant wrapped in a towel just before the baby was left abandoned. The footage reveals various angles of the man who is now suspected of abandoning the child. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has currently charged the man with abandoning and endangering a child and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating him.

Luis Marin and Daniela Fedele, the couple who found the baby while on a walk with their 3-year-old daughter, recounted their experience. "In that moment, I saw a blanket. It was a towel on the floor...That's when I noticed it was a baby. The first (thing) I saw was her little feet moving. She wasn't crying or anything," Fedele revealed in an interview with ABC13. Marin added, "The look the baby was giving me, it's a newborn. I held her, and I'm like, how can someone can just leave a baby like this? It's heartbreaking."

The couple hopes to have the opportunity to visit the infant in the hospital. "She deserves better. I hope this doesn't define her life, and I hope she lives a good powerful life," Fedele commented, envisioning a more hopeful future for the abandoned newborn as per ABC13 report.
