The city of Salem is currently enshrouded in the mystery of the unforeseen death of 28-year-old Carla Fernanda Vasquez, after her body was discovered in the road in the early hours of May 23. Salem Police have since been conducting an investigation characterized as dealing with a suspicious death.

Vasquez was found lying in the roadway, according to the Salem Police Department, after surveillance footage revealed that a car had been traveling eastbound near 111 Rural Avenue SE, shortly before she was found at around 2 a.m. The video footage captured a "light-colored vehicle, possibly a van or mid-size crossover SUV," close to the cross street of Church Street, minutes before the paramedics arrived. Despite the swift response, paramedics determined Vasquez to be dead upon their arrival, according to a report from KOIN.

Detectives have turned to the community for assistance, asking anyone with knowledge regarding Vasquez's death to come forward. Highlighting the significance of the information that could be tied to the vehicle of interest—a light-colored van or mid-sized SUV—officials are especially keen to track the vehicle, as noted in an article by KGW. The vehicle in question was last seen traveling on Rural Avenue, moving past Church Street, which has now become a focal point in the investigation.

The Salem Police Department's urgent search for a potential witness comes with the understanding that even seemingly inconsequential details might shed light on the circumstances leading to Vasquez's demise.
