A 22-year-old San Francisco resident, Yohan Murillo-Medina, was recently sentenced to a prison term of 32 months for the possession and intent to distribute drugs in the Tenderloin district. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Murillo-Medina pled guilty to charges involving fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The charges stem from an incident on January 30, 2023, where Murillo-Medina, upon spotting law enforcement officials, fled the scene, discarding a backpack and a jacket containing the narcotics. The abandoned items were found to contain significant amounts of controlled substances. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Buszin with the help of Laurence Macaraeg following investigations by the DEA and the San Francisco Police Department.

Through his plea agreement, Murillo-Medina admitted to attempting to evade arrest due to his possession with the intent of distribution. United States District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley passed the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release after the completion of his prison term.

Found in Murillo-Medina's possession were 1,749.9 grams of fentanyl and 20.7 grams of methamphetamine, among other controlled substances. Since being apprehended, he has been in federal custody and will commence his prison sentence immediately.
