San José Man Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Two Attempted Bank Robberies in MaySource: San José Police Department

San José Police Department (SJPD) has taken a man into custody concerning two attempted bank robberies that occurred in May. Following a thorough investigation by the SJPD Robbery Unit, Kiet Vu, a 38-year-old San José resident, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the criminal acts.

The initial incident occurred on May 14, around 4:50 PM, when an unidentified man entered a bank on the 1700 block of Story Road, presenting a note demanding money from the teller. However, the bank employee did not comply, and the suspect left empty-handed. The second attempt followed on May 16, in which Vu purported to have a firearm and tried to once again quickly collect the money through a handwritten note at a bank in the 1100 block of South King Invalid Road. Similar to the first attempt, the bank teller resisted, and the suspect left before police could arrive.

According to the San José Police Department, detectives identified Kiet Vu as the suspect. They later obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant for his home. With the combined efforts of the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU), Vu was apprehended last Wednesday at his residence without incident.

Vu is currently booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail under the charges of attempted armed robbery. As investigations proceed, the SJPD encourages anyone with information relevant to this case or similar incidents to reach out.
