A second suspect has been detained in the Atlanta homicide case involving a young woman found shot dead in a car, with her toddler present in the backseat, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department reports that 19-year-old Cartez Harvey was arrested last Thursday on several counts, including murder and cruelty to children in the second degree.

Harvey, the latest to be taken into custody, for the May 18 incident faces charges identical to those of the previously arrested Jamal Baker, 23, who was apprehended on May 31. The altercation that resulted in the fatal shooting is believed to have occurred at an apartment complex on the 2500 block of Center Street NW around 2 a.m. This location was later identified by police as the likely origin of the gunfire after the woman was found inert, and her child distressed in a car on Hollywood Road.

After the shooting, officers arrived to find the 21-year-old woman seated lifelessly in the passenger seat of the car, and while the toddler was unharmed, a scene no child should ever witness was unfolded. Officers noted that three individuals were spotted walking in the vicinity, who are now suspected to be involved in the grave occurrence. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the preliminary investigation had pointed to three men as the potential perpetrators.

Both suspects, Harvey and Baker, have since been booked into Fulton County Jail, and as it stands, no bond has been granted. The case takes on a darker shade, considering a child's proximity to the violence, an individual whose life has been abruptly telescoped by the specter of death. Details about the third suspect remain sparse as authorities continue their investigation into the motivations behind this tragic event.
