Violent Chicago Weekend Sees 45 Shot and 8 Dead in Citywide Shootings, Including Teens and ChildrenSource: Chicago Police Department

Another violent weekend has shaken Chicago, with shootings throughout the city resulting in at least 45 individuals shot and eight fatalities, ABC7 Chicago reports. Among the wounded were two teens and a 12-year-old boy in Douglas on Friday night; the 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, who were both in good condition after being shot in the legs and back, respectively.

Violence continued unabated with a 16-year-old boy critically wounded in the abdomen while standing in a restaurant parking lot no arrests were made in that case nor in the various other incidents across neighborhoods from the North Side to Englewood, according to police data. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sun-Times adds to the grim tally, detailing a total of ten killings and 34 injuries from shoots spanning across diverse localities such as West Ridge, Roseland, and Little Italy, where a 44-year-old man was found dead from gunshot wounds early Monday morning.

In what seems a relentless stream of violence, no immediate arrests have followed these shootings. Police disclosed the death of a 31-year-old man shot on West Devon Avenue, and a man in Woodlawn, whose age was not immediately known, both lost their lives to gunfire on Saturday with culprits still at large. Sunday saw the death of a 26-year-old man, Kenneth E. Brown, who was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times in Roseland, "a witness told police two men had gotten out of a black sedan and shot the man before getting back into the car and fleeing," according to the Sun-Times.

Despite some incidents where weapons were recovered, including one where a 23-year-old man may have exchanged gunfire with an unidentified offender, the threads of justice remain frayed as no arrests have been reported. Police continue their investigations with hopes of finding those responsible for such pervasive violence. Tragically, both publications noted the shooting of an 18-year-old woman who was killed while sitting in a parked car in Englewood, another life cut short in a city battling the scourge of gun violence.
