The building at 435 Duboce is nearing completion after four years of renovations, and the popular mural by artist Ian Ross and friends that once hid its facade has been taken down. (No, not that one. Nope, not that one or that one, either. Yep, that one!)

The mural has been “repurposed into smaller individual works,” according to a Facebook event page for the launch of a new non-profit called 1 Brush Initiative, and the smaller works will be given away at the event this Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm.

If you want to get your hands on you're going to have to attend the launch event, which is being held at Rocha Art at 466 Brannan St., formerly known as the Ian Ross Gallery. As mentioned, it's the launch party for 1 Brush Initiative which, according to the Facebook page, is “a San Francisco based non-profit that facilitates public art projects and empowers youth.”

"By giving young people the tools and access to hands-on arts education, we plan to facilitate experiences that can potentially change lives. 1 Brush recruits professional artists to lead workshops and mentor young people at underserved schools and in the juvenile justice system. Through our workshops and public art projects where kids can learn from an artist as they create in real time, we hope to give youth the tools to express themselves in positive ways, while also beautifying San Francisco’s neighborhoods with engaging public art."

Priority for scoring a piece of the mural will be given to "those who responded to the initial social media blasts, and those living in the neighborhood who showed interest in preserving this mural in its new form.”

So, if you're a neighborhood resident who's enjoyed passing by the mural and wants to take a little piece of it home, Friday night will be your chance to throw your hat into the ring.
