Next Movie Night In Duboce Park Will Screen 'Milk'Photo: Andrew Dudley / Hoodline

Mark your calendar for the next outdoor movie night in Duboce Park.

On Saturday, July 25th, the annual event returns with a screening of 2008's "Milk." The film stars Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the openly gay San Francisco Supervisor who was assassinated at City Hall in 1978. The film won Oscars for best original screenplay and best actor (Penn), and was nominated for best picture of the year.

Put on by the Friends of Duboce Park, the free movie nights typically feature a film that was shot or set in San Francisco. Past editions have included "The Pursuit of Happyness," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "The Incredibles," "The Rock," and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Last year's airing of "So I Married An Axe Murder" (pictured above) drew a record crowd, according to organizers.

"Milk" is perhaps the most fitting Duboce Park screening yet; not only is the park the home of a Recreation Center bearing Harvey Milk's name, but it was also notably featured in the film (and in real life), as Milk pushed an ordinance to require dog owners to pick up after their dogs.

The July 25th screening will begin at 8:30pm. There will be hot chocolate, popcorn, and other snacks available, plus a movie bingo game with prizes including Peet's gift cards. We'll post a reminder in a few weeks.
