Inner Sunset Week: Halloween Events, Outdoor Options, News Of NotePhoto: Flickr/Sean Loyless

It'll be a busy Halloween weekend in the Inner Sunset, with plenty of kid-friendly events happening locally. But first, here's our biggest news from the week that was.

This past week saw the opening of Ke's Seafood BBQ Restaurant, a tabletop grilling establishment on 9th Avenue, in the space formerly occupied by Andy's Chinese Restaurant.

Over on Irving Street near 5th Avenue, we brought you news of some upcoming changes coming to the Shin Dig event space, including pop-up retail stores in the works.

And finally, we saw a resumption of the Sunset Tunnel construction project this past weekend, during which the N-Judah streetcars have been replaced by shuttle buses west of Duboce & Fillmore. The N-Judah will run as normal this weekend, though: expect additional construction coming over some weekends in November and in early 2016.

Coming up this weekend is the usual Halloween fun, and some other events, including:

The free Friday Nights at the de Young series continues in Golden Gate Park from 5pm to 8:45pm with a program titled "When the World Came to San Francisco," featuring art-making activities, an closing reception for "Beautiful Data" by Carlo Abruzzese, live music by Pangea Futbol Club, and a hypnosis tour in the sculpture garden. The evening ends with a screening of "When the World Came to San Francisco," a drama-documentary about the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.

The Circus Center (755 Frederick St, across from Kezar Stadium) is hosting a free Circus Skills Jam play session from 7-9pm, suitable for ages eight and up, where one can experiment with juggling, tight-wire, rolla bolla, feather balancing, clowning, and more in a casual setting, under the supervision of instructors. Children under the age of 15 require an adult be present and all children and teens under the age of 18 require a parent to sign a consent waiver. RSVP required.

Green Apple Books on the Park (1231 9th Avenue) is hosting a reading at 7:30pm by author John Keene from his collection of stories titled "Counternarratives". The collection is described thusly: "Ranging from the 17th century to our current moment, and crossing multiple continents, Counternarratives' stories and novellas draw upon memoirs, newspaper accounts, detective stories, interrogation transcripts, and speculative fiction to create new and strange perspectives on our past and present."

Saturday, October 31st

The weather is supposed to be sunny and dry this weekend, so you may want to spend your afternoon outdoors in Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park playing board games. The boardgames @ the park event is from 1-4pm and you're invited to bring your favorite games. (Try not to lose the little pieces in the grass.) This event is free but requires that you RSVP online.

The Inner Sunset Merchants Association is providing candy to retail businesses near 9th Avenue and Irving Street to give out to trick-or-treaters this afternoon. Look for the orange balloons!

If you don't mind heading west of the Inner Sunset, you can check out the first annual Harvest Festival at the Sunset Church at 3635 Lawton Street near 42nd Avenue. The free festival is from 4-9pm and features snacks, movies, giveaways, and carnival games (with prizes for kids).

Over at a particularly colorful corner of the neighborhood at Irving Street and 6th Avenue, you will find the annual Pumpkin Promenade at 6:30pm. There will be treats for both kids and adults, and you're invited to bring your jack-o'-lantern to add to the procession (and then bring it home afterward).

And don't forget to have a happy and safe Halloween!

Sunday, November 1st

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday at 2am, so don't forget to move your clocks back one hour before you go to sleep, and prepare for it to be darker earlier than you're used to this evening.

After eating too much candy the night before, Sunday might be a good day to partake in the numerous free and mostly outdoor events and activities that occur every Sunday in the neighborhood, including:

The Inner Sunset Farmers Market, from 9am-1pm in the parking lot between 8th and 9th Avenues and Irving and Judah Street.

Sunday Yoga by Spreckels Lake in Golden Gate Park at 10am.

Lindy In The Park at 11am: free swing dancing class at noon on JFK near the de Young Museum.

Golden Gate Park's Sunday Roller Disco Party takes place at 1pm, near JFK and 6th Avenue.
