After selling its building, wine retailer and tasting room Cerruti Cellars has departed Jack London Square, joining Bocanova, Haven, and Il Pescatore in the ranks of eateries that have ceased operations in the area this year.

The building at 100 Webster St. (at Embarcadero West) was sold for $7 million to an affiliate of San Francisco-based advertising firm, H&L Partners, the San Jose Mercury reports.

A message on the wine cellar's website states the last day of business was September 30th, and there are plans in the works to open a new wine-tasting and events center in American Canyon, though it's not clear when that will happen.

The Tudal family—which also operated the tasting room—owned the building and is responsible for the sale.

Dan Kincheloe, a building manager for Cerruti Cellars, said the Port of Oakland—which maintains operations at Jack London Square—has done a poor job of marketing area businesses.

“The Port of Oakland doesn’t do anything to promote this area. It’s why everyone is leaving this part of Oakland," he told the paper.

H&L Partners plans to move its headquarters and roughly 60 of its employees across the to the new spot after renovations are complete.

“We are doing a major remodeling in the building,” Andrea Alfano, chief operating officer with H&L Partners, told the Mercury. “It’s an old ice house that was built in 1928. We are boring holes, and opening an internal staircase to the second floor. It will be a completely open environment.”

“We believe in the rebirth of Oakland, and we want to be part of that,” Alfano explained. “Oakland has changed dramatically over the years. We will have a wonderful open space, a great creativity and collaboration space, and because it’s an open area near the water, that gives us more opportunities for creativity.”
