A new bakery and Italian spot, offering pizza and more, has debuted in the neighborhood. The new addition to midtown Sacramento, called Gran Milan, is located at 1801 L St.
This is Gran Milan's second location, with the first in the East Bay city of Richmond. The two founders, who first met in the 1990s, "set their sights on giving the U.S. the heart of Italy" and providing artisanal breads, coffees and desserts from their home country.
On the menu, diners can find pizza, focaccia and sandwiches. Those with a sweet tooth can also enjoy a wide range of desserts, including fruit tarts and gelato.
For drinks, Gran Milan serves espressos and machiattos with beans imported from Italy. For non-coffee options, look for a thick Milan-style hot chocolate.
Gran Milan has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp.
Kaelle A., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 24th, said: "Excellent service. Wide variety of pastries. Muffins, croissants, gluten-free options, savory breads, gelato and more! My friend's croissant was flaky on the outside, doughy on the inside, which is not perfect, but definitely close."
Yelper Mike R. added: “A new eatery on the 1800 hundred block of L street. A wonderful Italian eatery with savory lunch and dinner items. An Italian bakery at heart, expect to see a wonderful display of baked goods.”
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Gran Milan is open Monday from 8:30am–5pm, and Tuesday–Saturday from 8:30am–7pm. (It's closed on Sunday.)
