After more than two months, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) announced that T-Third light-rail trains have resumed service today — "and that's no April Fools’ joke," the transit agency said in a blog post.

Since January 22, K-Ingleside trains have only operated from Balboa Park to Embarcadero stations, with buses picking up transferring T-Third riders at Embarcadero station for the journey to Sunnydale. 

The reason for the shutdown was the demolition and replacement of the platforms at the UCSF Mission Bay station (on 3rd Street between South and 16th streets). The platforms are being adjusted to accommodate Golden State Warriors fans at the soon-to-open Chase Center. 

Though T-Third trains have returned, they won't stop at the UCSF Mission Bay station for at least a few more weeks, as final work is completed. No official reopening date for the station has been announced, but for now, riders can use the neighboring Mission Rock or Mariposa stations.

Once the Mission Bay station reopens, T-Third riders can expect some changes. Instead of two platforms, Muni will now service one 320-foot platform that can hold up to 700 travelers at one time, allowing four two-car trains to stop simultaneously. 

The changes will help mitigate the transit impacts of the Chase Center, which boasts 18,064 seats — about 40% as many as Oracle Park, which has 41,915. The Chase Center is currently set to open on September 6 with a concert by Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony.
