Banned Books Week, is a national event since 1982 against censorship and for promoting intellectual freedom. The official Banned Books Week website shares that this year's theme, "Let Freedom Read!" centers on the intrinsic need to protect the freedom to read .

Removal attempts of library books and resources saw an unprecedented surge in 2022. The American Library Association (ALA) reports that libraries and schools faced 1,269 instances of censorship requests, amplifying the need for the protecting the freedom of information and expression.

With multiple activities planned for Banned Books Week, the nationwide libraries and bookstores will draw attention to the cause. On October 4th, a virtual conversation on censorship featuring Burton and Da'Taeveyon Daniels, the youth honorary chair, will be hosted on Instagram. Additionally, Let Freedom Read Day will be observed on October 7th, a day aimed to inspire action against censorship as per the Banned Books Week Coalition .
