The October 2 an incident at Happy Happy Daycare center in San Jose has resulted in charges being laid against co-owners Shahin Gheblehshenas and Nina Fathizadeh. The pair are charged with felony child endangerment after two toddlers drowned and a third child was critically injured as reported by Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

The alleged negligence of the childcare providers resulted in the children being left unattended in a play area near an open pool. Further potential hazards were discovered such as gardening equipment and, according to the District Attorney's office, a gate leading to the pool area had previously been left open.

This serves to underscore the imperative of closely adhering to safety regulations at childcare facilities. Previous incidents have demonstrated catastrophic consequences when these standards slip, per the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

The defendants Gheblehshenas and Fathizadeh are scheduled for arraignment on December 6. If convicted, they face jail time and will need to grapple with the emotional fallout from the tragic incident which was potentially avoidable.
