Ex-Youth Pastor Charged with Child Sex Assault in San JoseSource: San Jose Police Department

A former youth pastor has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a minor, rocking the River Church Community in San Jose. Brett Bymaster, 47, a resident of San Jose and identified as the suspect, found himself was apprehended in the city of Manteca on April 11.

Bymaster, serving faith and shaping young minds at the River Church Community, stands accused of betraying the sanctity of his role, sexually assaulting a young girl multiple times from 2014 to 2018, according to a statement from the San Jose Police Department. The youth pastor also volunteered at afterschool programs, where the assault is reported to have begun when the victim was still a minor.

San Jose Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)/Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force spearheaded the investigation, triggered by reports filed in January this year. Through a survivor's courage, the veil on the ordeal was lifted, leading to the arrest of Bymaster after a meticulous investigation.

The survivor detailed the harrowing experiences of assault that allegedly took place during her adolescent years. Her testimony aided detectives in painting a picture of the grim reality behind Bymaster's actions. Bymaster, after his arrest, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, awaiting justice.
