The Bay Area is bracing for a weekend washout, with meteorologists forecasting back-to-back storms starting Friday, courtesy of El Nino's influence. According to the National Weather Service, San Francisco and its surrounding areas are set to receive substantial rainfall, kicking off heavy showers and potentially causing minor flooding and landslides.

The wet weather is expected to seriously start to hit Friday afternoon with the arrival of the first storm. "Light to moderate rain is expected to spread toward the Peninsula and North Bay coastline around 3 p.m.," reported the San Francisco Chronicle. Wind speeds along the coast could reach up to 35 mph by late afternoon, warning residents of the impending storm system. The gusts and rainfall are anticipated to intensify as the cold front sweeps through, possibly leading to road flooding.

After some respite Saturday during the day, a second weather front is due to pound the region by evening. This system could deliver another batch of rain and howling winds, with weather models suggesting landfall just north of San Francisco. Rain totals from the first two systems could accumulate around 2 inches in the North Bay by Sunday morning.

The deluge doesn't stop there – a third and most robust storm is forecasted for Sunday night into Monday morning. "Widespread rain is likely Sunday night through Monday morning," the National Weather Service warns. Residents are being advised to prepare for the potential of thunderstorms, which, in addition to the downpours, may also come with lightning strikes and gusty winds that possibly exacerbate flooding and trigger landslides.

The San Francisco Chronicle quoted the weather service's forecast discussion: "Roadway flooding, rapid rises in creeks and rivers, and widespread shallow mudslides are all hazards that can be expected with this round of rain and potential thunderstorms." Residents are thus recommended to stay tuned for updates and prepare for the upcoming stormy weather.
