Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids Unveils Monumental Sanctuary Overhaul With New Arch and MuralsSource: Google Street View

The Church of the Epiphany, a mainstay for spiritual gatherings, is in the midst of a significant overhaul – its first in four decades. The sanctuary's transformation includes the erection of a new arch that ascends to the rafters, serving as a backdrop for worship, according to Coon Rapids Minnesota.

Under the guidance of Father Tom Dufner, who has been at the helm since 2012, the structure has been designed to symbolize Christ's victory. In a statement obtained by the city's website, Dufner described the arch as "the symbolic victory of Jesus Christ. It's his triumphal arch." Rising to cover the previously exposed brick wall, the arch will frame the original cross of Christ, securing its prominence in the sanctuary's visual hierarchy.

For the arch's embellishments, attention has been turned to local artist Mark Sanislo, notable for his Christian-themed works and sculptures. Having tuned his craft alongside church projects nationwide, Sanislo is now focused on Epiphany's arch, diligently painting oil on canvas within a studio set up next to the church. "Scale-wise, it's actually probably a little bit smaller than some of the other church projects that I've done,” Sanislo told the city's website. “But it's definitely more detailed," as per Coon Rapids Minnesota.

With already over 1,500 hours logged, the team has quite the task ahead. The main arch mural alone is set to feature an approximate count of 20 saints, an ensemble of angels, and a portrayal of God the Father. Once completed in the studio, the artwork will be transported and installed within the church. The final phase involves direct-to-wall painting using scaffolding, a process anticipated to extend over another three months.
