A tragic turn of events unfolded after a collision last year between a car and a bicyclist in San Jose, resulting in the city's third traffic fatality of 2024. As per the San Jose Police Department, on June 25, 2023, at around 3:26 PM, a silver Lexus made contact with a bicyclist at the intersection of N. 13th Street and E. Santa Clara Street, leading to critical injuries for the rider.

The involved parties were an adult male driver who remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation and the injured adult male bicyclist who was rushed to a local hospital; the injuries initially labeled as unknown had a deeply sinister edge as they were later determined to be life-threatening and ultimately, the cyclist did not recover, passing away on January 24, 2024. This death marked the city's third tragic loss in a traffic incident just this year. The identity of the deceased is withheld as the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office works to notify the victim’s family.
