San Tan Valley Man Charged with Attempted Murder in I-10 Road Rage ShootingSource: Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

An Arizona man has gone to great lengths to boldly avoid arrest after a road rage incident turned violent on I-10 earlier this month. Salvatore Patrick Kupreisis, 39, of San Tan Valley, is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a Jan. 4 shooting that left another driver with a gunshot wound to the face. The arrest came after the victim provided authorities with a description of the assailant's vehicle, which was captured on his dashcam.

The situation unfolded near Chandler Boulevard on the edge of the Gila River Indian Community. The victim managed to escape the scene of the shooting and seek help at a nearby gas station, according to a report on 12 News. In a desperate attempt to seemingly cover his tracks, Kupreisis traded in the black Mercedes believed to be involved in the incident at a local auto dealership on Jan. 8.

New details emerged from court documents stating that the victim, upon being shot, "felt the shot and pulled over." These documents also show that Kupreisis is charged with a string of felonies, including second-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and drive-by shooting, as outlined in a report by FOX 10 Phoenix. The suspect was reportedly captured by the dashcam video turning in front of the victim's vehicle, allowing detectives to observe the Mercedes' plate and trace it back to him.

Upon Kupreisis' arrest on the night of Jan. 12, he was found to have keys to a Toyota Camry, not the black Mercedes. It's alleged that the suspect traded in the car to attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement. Court documents detail that dealership paperwork was found inside the Camry confirming the Mercedes trade-in just days after the shooting. Kupreisis is currently held on a $250,000 secured appearance bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 23, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.

The victim, who underwent surgery, was able to eventually help authorities in identifying his assailant by describing the vehicle and providing the crucial footage from his dashcam, investigators told 12 News. This evidence not only allowed law enforcement to home in quickly on the assailant but also sheds light on the lengths the suspect undertook to try to evade justice.
