Oakland Man Accused of Felony DUI After Hit and Run Leads to Police Chase in American CanyonSource: American Canyon Police Department

Chaos erupted on Highway 29 in American Canyon when a hit-and-run driver smashed into another car and then fled the scene, leading to a dramatic chase on Tuesday evening. According to the American Canyon Police Department, the collision occurred just after 6:30 PM at the junction of Highway 29 and Eucalyptus Drive. The suspect, later identified as Carlos Perez, 30, from Oakland, made a swift escape in a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, sparking an immediate pursuit by the victim.

In a reckless attempt to avoid capture, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and found solace in the nearby bushes after arriving at Donaldson Way and West Carolyn Drive. Unluckily for him, his freedom was short-lived; as he tried to recover his Chevy and escape yet again, officers intervened. According to a statement from the American Canyon Police Department, the foot chase ended with Perez being detained by the officers on the spot.

Perez now faces multiple charges, including felony driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and unauthorized motor vehicle operation. Adding to his list of transgressions is the charge of felony hit and run, a serious offense given the injuries sustained by the victim. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was promptly taken to a local hospital to receive care for injuries ranging from minor to moderate severity.

Spending his night in jail instead of his home, Perez was booked into the Napa County Jail.
