San Francisco Man Back in Custody After Failed Escape Attempt in San Mateo HospitalSource: Google Street View

A San Francisco man's bold bid for freedom from custody ended with him back behind bars and facing a fresh set of serious charges. Brandon Scot Corse, 48, pled no contest to felony charges arising from his daring escape attempt while receiving medical care from an undisclosed local hospital, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

Earlier this year, in January, after being apprehended on outstanding warrants and sustaining self-inflicted wounds, Corse attempted to flee during transport back to jail. This resulted in a confrontation where he tried to snatch a deputy sheriff's gun and Taser. Despite his efforts, the deputy managed to thwart Corse's escape, subduing him with minor injuries to both parties involved, as confirmed by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Corse's no contest plea specifically addressed a felony escape charge, resulting in a sentencing of two years probation and six months in jail. However, his January skirmish leaves him facing additional charges, including resisting an executive officer, attempted escape with force, and attempting to take a firearm and Taser from a deputy sheriff – all felonies that promise to compound his legal woes.

The altercation occurred early on a Sunday morning when a deputy sheriff, tasked with returning Corse to the Maguire Correctional Facility after his hospital treatment, found himself in a sudden scrap with the inmate. A physical tussle ensued when Corse leaped from his hospital bed, clearly not ready to relinquish his fleeting taste of freedom. The deputy managed to secure Corse despite the latter's desperate lunge for the weapons on the officer's belt. The incident left Corse with a minor cut and scratches, while the deputy walked away with minor abrasions.

Once subdued and back in custody, Corse was charged with additional felonies by the San Mateo County authorities.
