Terror at the mall turned out to be a false alarm Thursday when Schaumburg Police descended on Woodfield Mall after a man reportedly threatened violence. According to NBC Chicago, the call came in at around 10 a.m. and the suspect was quickly apprehended with no injuries reported.

The police response prompted an interruption in normal activities as the area was secured, shoppers were rattled by the large police presence that encapsulated the scene and as the inside and outside of the shopping center were extensively searched for any possible threat, which police later confirmed, there was no threat to the public in a statement obtained by Facebook.

While initially urging the public to steer clear of the west side parking lot, authorities quickly determined the area to be safe. "There is no threat to the public, and the area has been deemed safe," Schaumburg Police stated, as a sigh of relief was doubtlessly felt by the community and those who frequent the hub of suburban commerce.

Despite the clearance, the investigation into the incident remains active, with police continuing their meticulous search for any evidence or information that could shed light on the motives behind the threat, all mall entrances have now been reopened to the public according to Schaumburg Police on their official Facebook page.
