Chicago Commuters Alert: DuSable Lake Shore Drive Faces Weeks of Pavement Repair Lane ClosuresSource: Google Street View

Heads up, Chicago drivers: your commutes on DuSable Lake Shore Drive could hit some snags in the upcoming weeks. Starting April 22, the Chicago Department of Transportation is kicking off a series of lane closures for pavement repairs that could throw a wrench in your driving plans, according to an NBC Chicago report.

The work, which is part of the 'Arterial Resurfacing Program,' will affect both the southbound, and northbound lanes between Roosevelt Road and 31st Street. Expect southbound lane closures from April 22 to May 6, where one lane will stay shut from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m., and three lanes will be off-limits during the 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. work window.

Don't get too cozy with the traffic pattern, though—things are flipping on May 6. Northbound drivers will face similar restrictions until May 20, with one lane closed overnight and three lanes during the day, as noted by ABC 7 Chicago. The pattern continues, alternating between southbound and northbound closures each two-week period, until the planned end date on June 17.

Officials are suggesting that those who frequent the Drive, plan ahead and perhaps opt for alternate routes or public transport. And keep an eye on the sky—because "inclement weather and other emergencies could cause the schedule to change," as NBC Chicago points out, so flexibility is the name of the game for the next eight weeks.
