A brazen attempt at criminal sexual abuse rattled the Chicago community when a woman was assaulted in the West Loop area earlier this month. According to the Chicago Police Department's community alert, the 35-year-old victim was attacked from behind as she walked on Carpenter St. towards Randolph St. on April 14, 2024.
The suspect, described as a male Hispanic around 30-35 years old with short hair, reportedly seized the woman by her waist and covered her mouth to drag her to an alley. Despite the horror of the ordeal, the victim fought back fervently, biting the assailant's index finger, which led the assailant to throw her to the ground before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured the suspect tracking the victim prior to the attack.
The police have circulated an updated image of the suspect, indicating he was wearing a white and green windbreaker at the time of the incident. The community alert urges the public to exercise caution, recommending walking in pairs, avoiding engagement with strangers, and remaining vigilant in well-lit, populated areas.
In light of the attack, residents have been advised to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities by calling 911.
