A Miami-Dade resort was the scene of an unexpected discovery when an iguana managed to lay 30 eggs at the bottom of the resort's swimming pool and got stuck in a water slide. The scaly squatter's presence came as a peculiar twist for maintenance crews and guests alike.

The reptile rendezvous was uncovered last Friday, according to Michael Ronquillo of Humane Iguana Control. "It's a pretty crazy event, you know. The resort called us to an iguana being stuck in a jet of a slide, and also because they had the iguana eggs in the bottom of the slide," Ronquillo said in a statement obtained by WSVN. Curiously, the iguana managed to free itself before Humane Iguana Control arrived at the scene.

The breeding season for Florida's iguanas typically takes place from February through March and seems to have spurred creative nesting sites in urban environments. Ronquillo expressed to Fox News Digital, “We’ve received calls about iguanas nesting in unusual places like a pools, under artificial turf, and cars.”

Humane Iguana Control's rapid intervention ensured that there were no health risks from the poolside egg-laying incident. Ronquillo also warned of the dangers associated with approaching iguanas, citing their sharp nails, teeth, and powerful tail whips. "Directly addressing iguanas can pose bodily harm and health risks due to their sharp nails, teeth, and tail whips reaching speeds of 30 mph," Ronquillo shared, underscoring the importance of leaving iguana control to professionals.

The eggs were promptly removed, as iguanas are considered an invasive species in South Florida and have been known to cause property damage. Concerned citizens are advised to contact appropriate authorities instead of engaging with these reptiles to avoid potential injuries or the spread of pathogens like salmonella.
