A burst of violence believed to be fueled by road rage erupted on the south side of San Antonio last night, culminating in a shooting that sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the cheek. According to KENS 5, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to the scene of the shooting in the 900 block of Southeast Military Drive at around 4:13 p.m.

Escalating from an altercation that began on Roosevelt Avenue, the victim was followed by the suspect into a mall parking lot, where a fight ensued before gunfire erupted. After being shot, the wounded man's car collided with a 78-year-old pedestrian. Fortunately, the pedestrian escaped serious injury and declined medical care. The victim, still alert, managed to drive himself to a fast-food restaurant on the 3500 block of Roosevelt and called for help, as relayed by SAPD in a statement obtained by KENS 5.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the suspect, driving a blue sedan, initiated the confrontation then proceeded to shoot the victim, as per authorities. The suspect is at large, and when apprehended, will be charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The injured man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, with no threat to his life hanging overhead.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues in earnest, SAPD officials stated. They are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward as they stitch together the narrative of these tense moments that have once again reminded this community of the ever-present shadow of violence lurking on its streets.
