San Marcos Transforms Into Pre-Eclipse Art Spectacle with 'Alignmentality' Installation DowntownSource: City of San Marcos

San Marcos is about to light up with a dazzling display of art and nature as the city prepares for an out-of-this-world showcase. The historic downtown square will become a canvas for "Alignmentality," a mesmerizing art installation set to honor both the San Marcos River and an upcoming solar eclipse. The public is invited to feast their eyes on the creative works this weekend, with stunning projections illuminating the Hays County Historic Courthouse, according to the City of San Marcos.

It's not just any old show; "Alignmentality" marks a collaboration between local talents: VR whiz Topher Sipes, the painter with a penchant for multimedia Alicia Philley, and the projection art maestro Jasna Boudard. They've taken the color-rich palette from five of Philley’s pieces, transforming them into an aquatic-themed animation that'll take viewers on a vivid journey without even leaving the square.

As an aside to the eye-catching exhibits on April 6 and 7, the total solar eclipse is poised to plunge San Marcos into darkness during the day on April 8. "This is a really unique moment, with so many people planning to gather for the eclipse, a nature-based event that will only last a few minutes," Philley said, in a statement obtained by the City of San Marcos. "Our artwork is about the warping of time during emotionally heightened experiences and the possibility of feeling universally connected."

But this isn't your typical art show where you stroll by static pieces. "Alignmentality" is a time-based wonder with each cycle of animation stretching out over 24 minutes. Catch it running through five cycles between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. It's the south side columns of the courtyard that will come alive with stories told by light, while a partner installation can be peeped during the San Marcos Studio Tour at Mothership Studios from April 5-7.
