A devastating crash ripped through the Englewood neighborhood Friday night, leaving one person dead and at least 10 others injured, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to police, a stolen vehicle was barreling eastbound through a red light when it collided with two other cars in a violent crash around 9:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 59th Street.

The aftermath was chaos: a male in his 20s from the speeding auto was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with severe injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to blunt force trauma shortly after arrival. A 25-year-old woman, also from the rogue car, is fighting for her life in critical condition, while a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old are grappling with a spinal fracture and a femur fracture respectively, detailed WGN-TV. Six more, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time in the other battered vehicles, were whisked away with less serious afflictions.

Witnesses could only watch as the driver of the stolen car fled, disappearing into the night while his passengers, the injured and dead, were left behind. Police later confirmed that a firearm was found at the crash site, adding potential criminal charges to the tragic event.

Detectives are now combing through the wreckage for answers, and the investigation is underway. They hope to track down the driver who sparked this deadly chain of events. Hospitals meanwhile, are providing care to the victims.
