Miami Man Accused of Attempted Murder Following Shooting in Northwest Miami-DadeSource: Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation

A Miami man is facing serious charges following a shooting in northwest Miami-Dade, and his subsequent takedown was captured on camera by deputies in Indian River County, as per officials. Leequan Stephon Jackson, 26, is accused of first-degree attempted murder and tampering with a victim and/or witness, according to an arrest warrant from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Law enforcement officers said they responded to Jackson North Medical Center on the night of April 26 after reports of a shooting in the vicinity of the 100 block of Northwest 170th Street. Officers located a male victim at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder who recounted an argument with Jackson that escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, Jackson is alleged to have shot the victim, as reported by Local 10.

The victim stated that after being shot, Jackson attempted to prevent him from leaving the scene, questioning, "Where are you going, n----?" and "Are you going to tell on me?" according to Local 10. The victim was then transported to the hospital by his friend and girlfriend, who both witnessed the incident. According to officials, surveillance footage from the incident site and hospital shows Jackson following the victims after the shooting in a rental vehicle.

Authorities further detailed that Jackson made multiple phone calls to the witnesses while following them. The manhunt for Jackson ended when Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies located him in the area after being notified he was driving a stolen Ford F150, as seen on footage they shared on social media. His family convinced him to surrender, leading to his arrest. In a statement obtained by NBC6 Miami, officials said, "His family called him, and after some time, he agreed to turn himself in."

Following his apprehension, Jackson faced additional charges including attempted murder. He was taken to the IRC Jail and then to the Metro West Detention Center where he is being held without bond. The motive for the incident has not yet been disclosed by the police.
