In a startling early morning incident on the Rhodes College campus, a security guard was faced with a life-threatening situation when an armed assailant carjacked her vehicle. The Memphis Police Department received an emergency call just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, responding to the harrowing scene at the college's Spann Place Security Office, as reported by Action News 5.

The security guard, on duty, noticed an unexpected light within her car, a 2023 Dodge Challenger. Upon investigation, she was confronted by, a male suspect who discharged a firearm and forced her back into her office under the threat of a gun. In a statement obtained by WREG, the perpetrator demanded her car keys with an explicit command. Frightened but unharmed, she complied, and the suspect fled westbound on Tutwiler Avenue in the stolen vehicle.

This brazen act of violence has been particularly distressing for the Rhodes community due to the victim's personal connections; she is the daughter of the former Memphis Police Association president, Mike Williams. This chilling detail was confirmed in an exclusive interview with ABC24. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the fact that personal possessions, including a laptop, iPhone, and wallet, were also inside the car at the time of the theft.

Police have yet to apprehend the suspect, described as a man in his late teens or early twenties, clad in a black jacket, light gray sweatshirt, black mask, black pants, and black shoes. A bullet struck the side of the building during the encounter, yet, miracsciously no one was harmed. Rhodes College has issued an official statement, expressing relief that the dispatcher was uninjured and detailing their cooperation with local law enforcement to increase the safety measures in and around the campus.
