Charlotte Road Rage Incident Escalates to Shooting in Plaza Midwood, Police Seek InformationSource: Google Street View

A recent road rage encounter in the Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte escalated to violence, culminating in a shooting that was captured on video. The incident, which unfolded on Monday afternoon around 2:45 p.m., began with what the involved SUV driver, identified only as Thomas, perceived as a minor traffic impasse near Central Avenue and Pecan Avenue. According to a report by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, obtained by WCNC, the confrontation led to a suspect firing a shot into Thomas's windshield.

Thomas recounted to Queen City News that the clash commenced with a "friendly honk" aimed to prompt an unattentive driver. The situation rapidly devolved, and Thomas, who was ferrying his 73-year-old post-operative father, admits to participating in the altercation. "Eventually, they were able, to get what they wanted," Thomas lamented, expressing regret for engaging with the belligerent individual in the black sedan.

A witness to the ordeal, Jeff Hunt, described to WBTV a scene where Thomas, the SUV driver, splashed water from a bottle through a partly open window at the other driver, which supposedly triggered an aggressive response. Hunt saw the other individual, armed with a stick, attack Thomas's vehicle. Shortly after, the retaliatory exchange reached a harrowing climax when the SUV's windshield was shattered by a shot.

"I will admit I was definitely in the wrong engaging with him, but after he smashed my dad’s mirror, I decided to take a stick and smash his rear windshield, and I think that prompted him to pull over and take a shot at us," Thomas explained. Further detailing the frightening experience, he added, "And so went straight through the front windshield, and [my] father luckily was wearing an eye shield but has bullet fragments lodged in his face now, so lucky he’s alive, lucky I’m alive," according to his interview with WBTV. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are actively seeking information and encourage anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward.
