A tragic scene unfolded on Pine Street in Santa Ana when a drive-by shooting in broad daylight claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy and seriously injured a 16-year-old, near an elementary school where parents were later met with the stark reality of crime scene tape as they arrived to pick up their children. According to a press release from the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Raymond Mario Jimenez, 27, faces charges including one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, in addition to a charge for shooting into an inhabited dwelling and six enhancements for using a firearm causing death or serious injury.

On June 5, two13-year-olds were engaged in a confrontation which soon turned violent as shots were fired, causing them to flee toward their apartments on Bishop Avenue minutes later Raymond Mario Jimenez drove up and without hesitation, opened fire—13-year-old Daniel Vargas was shot in the head and later died at OC Global, while the other was unharmed, yet as the violence spilled over, a 16-year-old witness peering from his kitchen window was struck in the head, nevertheless, he survived, after being rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, as reported by the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

The charged assailant, Jimenez, remains the focus of a judicial process that has set his arraignment for July 10, in the Central Justice Center, Department C5, in Santa Ana. If convicted of all charges, he may face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole—a severe yet consequential end for the flurry of violence that claimed one life and altered another.
