It was another case cracked by technology, when Colma Police Department officers, alerted by an automated license plate reader, intercepted a stolen vehicle and took a Daly City resident into custody on June 11. The vehicle reported stolen to the San Diego Police Department entered the seemingly restful town of Colma, igniting a string of events that would culminate in an arrest.

The alert came through at about 9:21 am, and the police wasted no time in locating the vehicle near the intersection of Junipero Serra Boulevard and Colma Boulevard, a spot often bustling with commuters and shoppers, the officers conducted what they called a high-risk felony stop, and the driver must've felt the weight of his choices as he was detained without a hint of the dramatic altercations that often mark such encounters.

The driver, identified as Thiago Cachetaorlando, a 34-year-old inhabitant of Daly City, soon found himself facing charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property as he was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, the gears of justice beginning their slow but inexorable rotation.
