Tragedy struck on I-70 eastbound Thursday night when a semi tractor-trailer collided with a disabled van, resulting in the death of a six-year-old girl and injuries to four others. As reported by Fox59, Indiana State Police responded to the incident near Meridian Street and Madison Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. The collision left all five occupants of the van—two adults and three children—seriously injured. They were transported to hospitals in the Indianapolis area for treatment.

A dispatched to the fatal accident at the time that was not suitable, the Indiana State Police confirmed that the injured were hospitalized immediately following the accident. According to WTHR, the young girl died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. The van, which was at a standstill in the left lane, was rear-ended by the semi. The conditions of the other victims have been reported as stable.

Following the crash, eastbound I-70 lanes were closed for an extended period, which lasted about five hours. During this time, investigators worked at the scene and cleanup crews cleared the debris resulting from the tragic event.
