A Massachusetts man has been apprehended in Vermont following a fatal double stabbing incident in Brockton. The suspect, 33-year-old Kevin Digregorio of Randolph, was discovered by law enforcement while asleep in his vehicle, as reported NBC Boston detailed in their coverage. Digregorio is accused of the murder of William Hewlett, age 59, on Melrose Avenue in Brockton earlier this week.

Earlier today, DiGregorio was taken into custody without incident by Vermont State Police and U.S. Marshals. Arrested while sleeping in his car, this followed the issuing of an arrest warrant in connection to the stabbing that transpired on Monday night. As reported by MassLive, DiGregorio is expected to face charges including murder upon his extradition to Massachusetts, among various other counts.

The violent occurrence, which took place around 6:48 p.m., left another victim, a 61-year-old man, with injuries treated at South Shore Hospital. According to a statement obtained by WHDH, the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing but is not believed to have been a random act of violence.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office confirmed the identity of the deceased, Mr. Hewlett. He was found with critical stab wounds when Brockton police responded to the scene; he was later pronounced dead after being transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. The name of the second victim, who has since been released from the hospital, was not given. The unfolding investigation will continue as officials piece together the circumstances leading up to the tragedy, which rocked the Melrose Avenue community earlier this week.
