Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck at Point Fermin Park in the San Pedro area when two people fell off a cliff, leaving one dead and another requiring immediate rescue. The Los Angeles Fire Department was alerted to the incident just before 1:45 a.m. and discovered one individual deceased at the foot of the cliffs upon arrival, as reported by the LAFD. The second victim was found halfway down the cliff, necessitating emergency medical attention.

Due to the precarious positioning of the injured party, firefighters swiftly established a rope system to access, administer care, and successfully retrieve the person. Reflecting on the darkened skies, a follow-up update revealed that "Due to deteriorating conditions and visibility, Air Operations was unable to assist with the body recovery," as detailed by the LAFD. Consequently, firefighters on the scene were compelled to enact a second rope rescue on land to recover the deceased individual.
