Oxnard Man Dies Following Assault and Multiple Vehicle Strikes on E. Hueneme Road, Police Seek WitnessesSource: Google Street View

Tragedy struck the streets of Oxnard last night when a man, reported to be between 50 to 60 years old, fell victim to a brutal assault and then was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. The harrowing incident occurred on the 300 block of E. Hueneme Road, according to the Oxnard Police Department. Detective Manny Perez, who is overseeing the investigation, detailed in the report that the dispatch center began to receive calls at around 8:58 p.m. on June 16 about a fight involving multiple individuals.

When the police reached the scene, they found the victim alone and immobile in the road, having been hit by passing cars. Despite the prompt arrival of Emergency Medical Services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police that before being hit by the vehicles, the victim was actively being assaulted by several subjects in the roadway, as per the Oxnard Police Department. The assailants fled on foot before the man was run over, and while two of the vehicles that had struck him stayed at the location and their drivers were cooperative, it remains unknown whether additional vehicles may have been involved.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the senseless nature of the crime. The Oxnard PD's Major Crimes Unit and Traffic Unit are to closely comb through the evidence, hoping to not only bring clarity to the circumstance that led to the man's death but also to provide some form of closure to a stunned community.
