Tucson Man Indicted on Firearm and Cocaine Trafficking ChargesSource: U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration

A Tucson man faces serious charges after a federal grand jury indicted him on several counts related to firearm and cocaine trafficking. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Arizona, Jesus Antonio Najar, 22, is confronted with accusations ranging from conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine to the possession of unregistered and modified firearms.

Authorities claim that on April 19, Tucson Police officers arrested Najar after he was spotted driving a stolen vehicle. In the process, the vehicle that was confiscated included a variety of illegal weapon modifications such as a drop in auto sear used for converting a weapon into a fully automatic one. Presented with an obliterated serial number, the Glock 17 pistol found with a machinegun conversion device was also in Najar's possession and unregistered.

Additionally, the indictment recounts an earlier event from October 12, 2023, wherein Najar allegedly conspired to possess and distribute cocaine. During this incident, he reportedly committed drug crimes while simultaneously using and possessing multiple firearms, including one modified to function as a machine gun, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Arizona. Furthermore, on December 11, 2023, he is alleged to have possessed an unregistered short-barrel rifle.

Najar's indictment outlines severe potential penalties for the charges. Possession with the intent to distribute cocaine could land him up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. Finding himself equipped during a drug crime with a machine gun could mean a sentence of no less than 30 years. All convictions would potentially involve years of supervised release following incarceration.
