Two individuals are facing serious charges following a recent attempt to break into a residence in East Boston. The Boston Police Department reported the arrests of Timothy Deconinck, a 55-year-old Malden resident, and William Cataldo, 59, of Saugus, on Saturday. The officers were responding to a call about a breaking and entering in progress at 212 Waldemar Ave.

Upon their arrival, authorities found Deconinck with equipment purportedly used to forcibly enter the property. He was taken into custody and found to be already wanted on a warrant relating to a high-stakes robbery on Meridian Street, where $240,000 was stolen. Deconinck now faces multiple charges, including the unarmed robbery of a senior citizen, carjacking, and impersonating a police officer. His additional charges from this recent incident include the possession of burglarious tools and resisting arrest, among others.

Cataldo was also arrested shortly after Deconinck, discovered close by and charged with possession of burglarious tools and defacing property, to name a few of the allegations. Both men are to be arraigned at the East Boston District Court, with Deconinck's expected charges being particularly severe due to the nature of his outstanding arrest warrant and the current alleged offenses.

The prompt actions of the District A-7 (East Boston) officers likely prevented further loss and have temporarily removed two alleged criminals from the streets. The community's vigilance in reporting suspicious activities played a key role in allowing the police to quickly apprehend the suspects and attempt to halt a potential crime in its tracks. Residents can draw a breath more easily knowing that, for now, these threats to their peace have been curtailed.
