AAA Revives ‘Tow to Go’ Program to Prevent Impaired Driving During Independence Day FestivitiesSource: Google Street View

As the Independence Day revelries beckon, AAA is bringing back its longstanding 'Tow to Go' program, aimed at curbing impaired driving during one of the busiest holidays of the year. The service, which has been a critical tool in the fight against DUI for more than two decades, will once again offer a lifeline to those who find themselves unable to safely drive their vehicle. From July 3 through July 8, individuals can call upon a tow truck to transport them and their vehicle within a ten-mile radius to a secure destination. In an undertaking to not just assuage but eliminate the threat of impaired driving, AAA's Mark Jenkins stated, "By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications," WFTV reported.

Though the service is invaluable, it's not intended to be the first line of defense. Instead, AAA advocates to first arrange for a designated driver or to use a ride-sharing service. However, should those plans not pan out, Tow to Go might just be the backup that ensures a safe conclusion to a festive evening. "Please plan ahead by asking a friend to be your designated driver or use a ride sharing service. If those plans fall through, you can call Tow to Go and AAA will arrange for a safe ride for you," Jenkins suggested. The service will operate from 6 p.m. on July 3 to 6 a.m. on July 8, with the contact number being (855) 2-TOW-2-GO. This was reported by WDBO.

It's worth noting that while the service is freely available to both AAA members and non-members, it cannot be scheduled in advance, and availability might be limited in rural areas or under severe weather conditions. The Tow to Go program, which boasts the significant achievement of having safely removed over 30,000 impaired drivers from the roads since its inception, aligns with AAA's wider objective of expecting to assist more than 800,000 drivers across the nation with car troubles during this holiday period, as cited by WDBO.

With a quarter-century legacy, Tow to Go continues to provide an essential service on holidays synonymous with elevated risks of driving under the influence. Adhering to this mission, "Tow-to-Go has removed more than 30,000 impaired drivers from the road since it began 25 years ago," according to AAA spokesman, Mark Jenkins, as per WDBO. As Americans prepare to celebrate their nation's independence, AAA ensures that safety doesn't take a back seat amidst the festivities.
