Over 80 Firefighters Quell Intense Blaze at Commercial Building in Downtown Los AngelesSource: Google Street View

A two-story commercial building in Downtown Los Angeles became the scene of a considerable blaze on Sunday evening. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that the fire at 1390 E. Newton Street was fully involved when crews arrived shortly before 8:00 P.M. This property, with a history of prior fires, once again succumbed to the flames, which required a defensive fight from firefighters.

The LAFD alert stated that the fire was fiercely consuming a 100' x 50' commercial structure, leading crews to quickly move to protect nearby buildings while battling the blaze from the exterior. They were determined to quickly bring the situation under control, ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the surrounding community according to the initial incident report.

In an effort that included over 80 firefighters, the blaze was knocked down in approximately 48 minutes. Despite the building's extensive damages due to multiple previous burns, there were no injuries or fatalities, as noted in an update from the LAFD. With the integrity of the structure now in question, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety will be evaluating to determine the future of the scorched edifice.

As per the follow-up report by the LAFD, "LAFD Heavy Equipment crews are on standby for possible demolition, in the event the structure is deemed unsafe." The cause of the fire remains under careful investigation, and authorities have yet not released any potential causes or contributing factors.
