Following the substantial financial endorsement by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Illinois is readying to elevate its stance in the realm of agricultural bio innovation. Approximately $51 million has been assigned to the state's Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing (iFAB) Tech Hub, as reported by the State of Illinois official website. This endorsement brings not just assurance but tangible assets, required for spearheading sustainable initiatives and bolstering job creation in the precincts of Central Illinois.
According to illinois.gov, Governor JB Pritzker said, "to expand their cutting-edge research and bring innovation and growth to Central Illinois for decades to come." Touting the fund as a driver of prosperity, Pritzker indicates the region's potential to lead the nation in biomanufacturing. The grant contributes to a cascade of infrastructural improvements, which includes the expansion of the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory (IBRL) with a sizeable bioprocessing expansion, in addition to facilitating advancements for other regional players like Primient and Synonym, and ADM's precision fermentation facilities.
Further elucidating the intent behind this sizable investment, Beth Conerty, iFAB's regional innovation officer, emphasized the foundational goal, "we are thrilled to lead this charge in making Central Illinois the heart of biomanufacturing in the U.S. and beyond," she told the official site. The iFAB Tech Hub is expected to be a linchpin for economic impact in Illinois, with U. of I. Chancellor Robert J. Jones noted the University's role in using its "expertise and resources to fuel progress and prosperity right in our backyard."
