While exploring Greenwich Village, I suddenly noticed a slight change in the atmosphere. As I made my way down the block, I realized the style of architecture was transforming before my eyes. Unexpectedly, I found myself in Europe.
Well, sort of.
What I actually came across was a small alcove full of French and German style houses, which are currently used by the language department at New York University. To enter, you head through an archway which opens up to a cobblestone road that lines the entire length of the block. It’s unusually quiet and incredibly peaceful inside.
Only a fence divides the alcove from the rest of Greenwich Village. Yet, I still felt like I was in a completely different part of the world. While I do come across of lot of culturally inspired neighborhoods in New York City, this was my first time encountering a culturally inspired alleyway.
