I was standing on an overhead subway platform when I noticed something odd. I could see straight into the homes of the people living in the apartment complexes right next to the train. In fact, only a couple inches separated the buildings from the actual tracks. If I were to stand on a fire escape, I could probably (and illegally) hop onto the platform.

I don’t live too far from a train myself — maybe a block and a half away. But even from my distance, I can hear the trains pass every morning and all throughout the night. I wonder what it must be like to live right next to the tracks. Is it noisy? Can you feel the vibration of the passing trains or do you just grow used to the sound overtime?
