Whether you're getting to know someone new or want to celebrate an occasion with your significant other, it's always good to have at least one killer romantic restaurant in your back pocket. Here are five places around town where the vibe is relaxed, the lighting is dim, and the wine is flowing—creating an intimate atmosphere for two.
Masseria
Union Market
Though it's one of the District's toughest tickets, this Michelin-starred Italian spot is worth the effort for a truly special date night. Influenced by Italy's Puglia region, the ancestral home of chef Nick Stefanelli, Masseria's three tasting menus (four, five, or six courses for $84, $92, and $125, respectively) are so good that you'll want to share everything with your significant other, particularly the decadent housemade pastas. If possible, ask for a seat on the lovely outdoor patio, beneath strings of twinkling lights.
Fiola
Penn Quarter

Owned by the husband-and-wife team of Fabio & Maria Trabocchi, Fiola is known as much for its staggeringly gorgeous modern decor as it is for its high-end Italian fare (which starts at $95 for two courses and dessert). The menu is full of luxurious ingredients, from lobster to foie gras to caviar, and the wine list runs to 77 pages, with nearly a thousand bottles to choose from. And if you love seafood, there's also sister restaurant Fiola Mare, which is equally luxe.
Chez Billy Sud
Georgetown

A weekend getaway to the City of Light may not be in the cards, but a meal of classic French fare at Chez Billy Sud is the next best thing. This intimate little bistro is known for its warm service, excellent French food (try the onion soup and duck a l'orange), and top-notch selection of Gallic wines. And when the weather is warm, there's no better place than the tiny outdoor patio to while away an afternoon over a bottle of rosé and a cheese plate.
Iron Gate
Dupont Circle

Housed in a historic former carriage house in Dupont Circle, Iron Gate offers a variety of romantic ways to enjoy an evening together, from cocktails on the fire pit-adjacent sofas to a grand tasting menu in the cozy, firelit dining room. The Mediterranean-influenced small plates menu is adaptable to either environment, but if you're seeking something more grand, there are also some special dishes for two people to share, including Italian seafood stew and slow-baked cannelloni.
Osteria Morini
Navy Yard

With its open kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows, Osteria Morini feels like a chic loft—albeit one with a spectacular view of the Potomac River. And even when the vistas dim at night, the honey-colored light fixtures give the room a particularly warm glow. The menu of Italian comfort food will please even the pickiest date, particularly the spectacular pastas. And there's nothing more romantic than a postprandial stroll along the waterfront.
