A new spot to score ice cream and frozen yogurt has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to Sawtelle, called Helados La Michoacana, is located at 11813 Santa Monica Blvd.

The new spot is named after the state in Mexico where paletas, the fresh-fruit ice pops sold at the new dessert shop, were born. Expect to find an assortment of "creamy, fully flavored ice creams and delicious fruit bars [that] are crafted using traditional, old world style of Latin American influence."

Paletas come in 14 original flavors, such as rice pudding, cucumber with chili, rum raisin and more. Additionally, popsicle sticks  are available in rum raisin, coconut and strawberry. (See all the flavors here.)

The fresh arrival has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.

Jennifer W., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 10th, said: "Sooooo excited that this place has finally opened!! The westside has always been a barren wasteland for yummy Latin treats such as paletas, mangoneadas, tostilocos, esquite, and etc."

Yelper Kim T. added: “My coworker had her eye on this place when their sign went up. Been here a few times and the paletas are such a treat! So glad that an affordable dessert place is available near my work."

And Melissa D. said: "HIGHLIGHT OF MY DAY! I drove by Santa Monica blvd. and saw the giant "Grand Opening" sign and was immediately full of joy! It's great to have a piece of home nearby."
