A new dance school has opened for business in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to East Hollywood, called Dance Refuge, is located at 1146 N Vermont Ave.

Open since mid-June, the new studio features a focus on hip-hop dance for adults and children alike, with classes that include beginner and intermediate hip-hop and breakdancing, plus hip-hop choreography, locking, and more from instrcutors Matthew Mori and Daniel Tai. (See the class offerings here.)

Dance Refuge has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

Derek T., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 10th, said: "Dance Refuge is exactly what it sounds like and a refuge for dancing. Mat's Gymnastics just opened up an extension of its facility to accommodate dancers and it is absolutely a godsend."

Yelper Dico B. added: “I came in knowing NOTHING of breaking or hip hop and I came out IN LOVE WITH IT. The teachers were great at handling beginners and kept it super fun."

And Natalie B. said: "Really cool place. The classes I've participated in have had fresh choreography that is on pace with how hip hop is growing and changing."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Dance Refuge is open weekends from 2pm–10pm, and Monday–Thursday from 5pm–10pm. (It's closed on Friday.)
